How Promotions Work on Strawlo: Discount Codes, Flash Deals, and Special Offers

A price reduction is not the only way to sell more products. Sometimes you give a free product. Sometimes you show a deal for two days only. Sometimes you only tell customers about an offer from social media.

Strawlo has three promotion types for these different tasks. This article explains each type. It also tells you when to use each type.

The Three Promotion Types

Discount code Flash deal Special offer
Changes the price Yes Yes No
The customer types a code Yes No No
Shows on the storefront No Yes Yes
Shows a countdown clock No Yes No
Time limit Optional Necessary Optional
Plan All plans All plans Business+

You can find all three types in one location. Go to MarketingPromotions.

Discount Codes

A discount code decreases the price at checkout. The customer must know the code. The customer must type the code.

This is important. A discount code is private until you send it to a customer. Thus a discount code is correct for these tasks:

  • You give a special price to one group of customers.
  • You put a code in a social media post.
  • You count how many customers use the code.

For each code, you set a percentage or an amount of money. You can also set a start date, an end date, and a maximum quantity of uses. You can apply the code to all products, or to some products only.

Strawlo counts each use of the code. Thus you can compare your codes. Then you can see which social media post gives you the most sales.

Flash Deals

A flash deal decreases the price automatically. The customer does not type a code.

Your storefront shows the new price and a countdown clock. Customers see the time that remains. Thus customers buy quickly.

A flash deal has a start time and an end time. You can also set a stock limit. If the sales reach the stock limit, the deal stops. The products return to the usual price.

Use a flash deal for these tasks:

  • You decrease your prices for some hours or some days.
  • You sell a quantity of products quickly.
  • You make an event, such as a sale on a public holiday.

Special Offers

Special offers are available only on the Business+ plan.

Some deals are not a percentage. Look at these examples:

  • "Buy 2 shirts. Receive a free cap."
  • "Receive a free drink with each box."
  • "Buy 3 products. Pay for 2 products."

A discount code cannot show these deals. A flash deal cannot show these deals. Before special offers, merchants put these deals only on social media. Customers on the storefront did not see them.

A special offer solves this problem. The offer shows a message on your storefront. The price does not change. You give the free product yourself.

Strawlo also helps you to remember the free product. If a customer buys a product with an offer, the order shows a reminder below that product. Strawlo keeps the reminder on the order permanently. Thus you can change the offer later, and the old orders stay correct.

Where The Offer Shows

If an offer is active, the customer sees the offer in three locations:

  1. A Special Offers section on the home page of your storefront.
  2. A badge on each product card in the offer. Example: "FREE GIFT".
  3. A message on the product page of each product in the offer.

Location 3 is important. The customer sees the offer at the moment of the decision to buy.

How To Create A Special Offer

  1. Go to MarketingPromotions.
  2. Click Create Promotion.
  3. Select Special Offer.
  4. Type a title. Example: "Buy 2 shirts, receive a free cap".
  5. Type a description and a badge. These fields are optional.
  6. Select the products for the offer.
  7. Set a schedule. This step is optional.
  8. Click Save Offer.

If you do not set a schedule, the offer continues until you stop it. Each offer has a switch. Set the switch to off to hide the offer. The offer stays in your dashboard.

Use More Than One Promotion

You can start more than one promotion at the same time.

A special offer does not change the price. Thus a special offer can apply with a discount code or a flash deal. Example: you can sell a shirt with a flash deal price, and also give a free cap with the shirt.

A flash deal and a discount code can also apply to the same product. The flash deal changes the price on your storefront. The discount code decreases the price again at checkout.

Which Promotion Do You Use?

Use this list to make your decision:

  • You must count the uses, or send a private price — Use a discount code.
  • You must sell quickly, and show a countdown clock — Use a flash deal.
  • You give a free product, or your deal is not a percentage — Use a special offer.
