How Promotions Work
A promotion helps you to sell more products. Strawlo has three promotion types. Each type has a different function.
- Discount codes — The customer types a code at checkout. The price decreases.
- Flash deals — The price decreases automatically for a short time. A countdown clock shows on your storefront.
- Special offers — Your storefront shows a message about a deal. The price does not change. This is a Business+ feature.
To see all your promotions, go to Marketing → Promotions.
Compare The Three Types
| Discount code | Flash deal | Special offer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Changes the price | Yes | Yes | No |
| The customer types a code | Yes | No | No |
| Shows on the storefront | No | Yes | Yes |
| Shows a countdown clock | No | Yes | No |
| Time limit | Optional | Necessary | Optional |
| Plan | All plans | All plans | Business+ |
Select The Correct Type
Read these examples. Then select the promotion type.
Use a discount code if:
- You send a code to a group of customers.
- You put a code in a social media post.
- You must count how many customers use the code.
Use a flash deal if:
- You decrease your prices for some hours or some days.
- You must show a countdown clock on your storefront.
- You must stop the deal after a quantity of sales.
Use a special offer if:
- You give a free product with a purchase.
- A percentage cannot show your deal correctly.
- You show a promotion from social media on your storefront.
Discount Codes
A discount code decreases the price at checkout. The customer must know the code. The customer must type the code.
For each code, you can set:
- a percentage discount or an amount of money
- a start date and an end date
- a maximum quantity of uses
- the products or the categories that the code applies to
How To Create A Discount Code
- Go to Marketing → Promotions.
- Click Create Promotion.
- Select Discount Code.
- Type the code, the title, and the discount value.
- Click Create Discount.
For more information, read Creating and managing discount codes.
Flash Deals
A flash deal decreases the price automatically. The customer does not type a code. Your storefront shows the new price and a countdown clock.
A flash deal has a start time and an end time. You can also set a stock limit. If the sales reach the stock limit, the deal stops.
How To Create A Flash Deal
- Go to Marketing → Promotions.
- Click Create Promotion.
- Select Flash Sale.
- Type the title and the discount value.
- Set the start time and the end time.
- Click Create Flash Deal.
For more information, read Running flash deals.
Special Offers
Special offers are available only on the Business+ plan.
A special offer shows a message on your storefront. The price does not change. Use a special offer for a deal that a percentage cannot show.
Examples of special offers:
- "Buy 2 shirts. Receive a free cap."
- "Receive a free drink with each box."
- "Buy 3 products. Pay for 2 products."
You give the free product yourself. Strawlo does not add the free product to the order.
When a customer buys a product with an offer, the order shows a reminder. Open the order. Then look below the product. The reminder shows the badge and the title of the offer. Thus you know to put the free product in the package.
Strawlo keeps this reminder on the order permanently. If you change the offer or delete the offer later, the old orders do not change.
What The Customer Sees
If an offer is active, the customer sees the offer in three locations:
- A Special Offers section on the home page of your storefront.
- A badge on each product card in the offer.
- A message on the product page of each product in the offer.
How To Create A Special Offer
- Go to Marketing → Promotions.
- Click Create Promotion.
- Select Special Offer.
- Type the title. Example: "Buy 2 shirts, receive a free cap".
- Type a description. This field is optional.
- Type a badge. This field is optional. Example: "FREE GIFT".
- Select the products for the offer.
- Set a schedule. This step is optional.
- Click Save Offer.
The Fields Of A Special Offer
| Field | Necessary | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Yes | The primary message. Keep the title short. |
| Description | No | More information about the deal. The maximum length is 150 characters. |
| Badge | No | A short label on the product cards. Example: "FREE GIFT". |
| Products | No | The products that show the offer. |
| Schedule | No | The start date and the end date of the offer. |
| Show on storefront | Yes | Set this switch to off. Then customers do not see the offer. |
If you do not type a badge, the product cards show the word "Offer".
If you do not select products, the offer shows only in the Special Offers section.
If you do not set a schedule, the offer continues until you stop it.
Use More Than One Promotion
You can start more than one promotion at the same time.
- A flash deal and a discount code can apply to the same product. The flash deal changes the price on your storefront. The discount code decreases the price again at checkout.
- A special offer does not change the price. Thus a special offer can apply with a discount code or a flash deal.
- If a product has a flash deal and a special offer, the product card shows the flash deal badge. The product page shows both promotions.
Manage Your Promotions
The Promotions page shows the three types in one list. Use the tabs to filter the list: All, Codes, Flash Sales, and Offers.
For each promotion, you can do these tasks:
- change the promotion
- stop the promotion, or start the promotion again
- delete the promotion
Each promotion has one of these four statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Customers see the promotion now. |
| Upcoming | The start date is in the future. |
| Ended | The end date is in the past. |
| Inactive | You set the promotion to off. |
Use The Mobile App
You can manage the three promotion types in the Strawlo app. Open the More tab. Then select Promotions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a special offer change the price?
No. A special offer only shows a message. You give the free product yourself.
What happens if I change to the Business plan?
Your special offers stop immediately. Customers do not see the offers. The offers stay in your dashboard. If you change to the Business+ plan again, customers see the offers again.
Can I create a special offer without products?
Yes. The offer shows in the Special Offers section of your storefront. But no product card shows a badge.
How many special offers can my storefront show?
Your storefront shows a maximum of 10 active offers.
Can a customer use a discount code and see a special offer at the same time?
Yes. A special offer does not change the price. Thus the two promotions do not have a conflict.
Why does my special offer not show on my storefront?
Examine these four conditions:
- Your plan is Business+.
- The switch Show on storefront is on.
- The start date is in the past, or the offer has no start date.
- The end date is in the future, or the offer has no end date.
