Accepting International Payments
Your Strawlo store can take payments from customers anywhere in the world. Someone abroad can check out with their international Visa, Mastercard, or American Express card, and you get paid in your own currency — just like a local sale.
There's nothing to turn on. If you've already set up payments on your store, you're already accepting international cards. No toggle, no second account, no extra paperwork.
How it works
Strawlo processes all online payments through Paystack. When a customer outside your country pays:
- They enter their international card at the secure checkout.
- Paystack charges their card the equivalent of your price — their bank handles the currency conversion.
- The funds settle to your bank account or mobile money wallet in your own currency, on the next business day — exactly like a domestic sale.
You never deal with foreign exchange, foreign bank accounts, or separate payouts.
Your prices stay in your currency
You don't need to create special prices for other countries. Keep listing everything in your own currency.
- A customer in the UK paying for a GH₵200 item is charged the equivalent in pounds by their own bank.
- You still receive GH₵200 (minus the processing fee) in your account.
The customer sees a fair amount in their currency; you see the amount you expected in yours.
What cards are accepted
| Card type | Accepted internationally |
|---|---|
| Visa | ✅ Yes |
| Mastercard | ✅ Yes |
| American Express | ✅ Yes |
| Mobile Money | Local customers only |
Local customers keep all their usual options (card and Mobile Money). International customers pay by card.
Shipping to international customers
Taking the payment is one half — delivering the order is the other. The two work together:
- Go to Store settings → Shipping/Delivery.
- Create a "Rest of the world" zone (it covers every country you haven't listed separately).
- Add a flat international delivery rate.
Now overseas customers automatically see that delivery fee at checkout. For countries that need a unit number (like the USA), customers also get an "Apartment, suite, unit" field so the address is complete.
See Shipping & delivery for the full walkthrough.
Import duties: any duties or taxes are paid by the customer on arrival, and they're told this clearly at checkout — so there are no surprise charges for you.
Fulfilling international orders
Strawlo doesn't ship for you — you stay in control. Once an order is paid, send it with any courier (a freight forwarder, GhanaPost, DHL, etc.), then open the order and add the tracking link so your customer can follow it.
Good to know
- Pay on Delivery is local only. It's a cash-in-hand option, so it isn't offered on international orders — overseas customers pay online by card.
- Processing fees. International cards carry Paystack's standard fee for foreign cards, which is slightly higher than a local payment. Strawlo takes no cut — the fee is deducted by Paystack at settlement and you keep the rest.
- Security. Every payment runs through Paystack's PCI-DSS-compliant checkout with 3D Secure. Card details never touch your store.
Frequently asked
Do I need to enable anything? No. International card acceptance is automatic once your payments are set up.
What currency am I paid in? Your own — the same currency your bank or mobile money account uses. You're settled the next business day.
Do I have to set prices in dollars or pounds? No. Keep your prices in your currency; the customer's bank converts for them.
Can international customers use Mobile Money? Mobile Money is for local customers. International customers pay with a Visa, Mastercard, or Amex card.
My store doesn't take payments yet — how do I start? Follow Setting up payments to connect your bank or mobile money account. Once that's done, you'll accept both local and international payments.
