Delivery Address Picker and Directions

Your store checkout includes a Google Maps-powered address picker that helps customers set their exact delivery location. Once an order is placed, you get tools to share the delivery details or navigate to the customer.

How It Works for Customers

When a customer reaches the delivery address step at checkout, they have three ways to set their location:

Search with Autocomplete

The default option. Customers start typing their address and see suggestions powered by Google Places. They tap a suggestion, and the map zooms to that location with a pin.

Drag the Pin

After selecting an address, customers can drag the map pin to fine-tune their exact spot. This is especially useful in areas where street addresses don't map precisely to a building or compound. The address text updates automatically when the pin is moved.

Use My Location

Customers can tap Use my location to let their browser detect their GPS position. The map centers on their location and the address is filled in automatically. This is the fastest option for mobile users.

Manual Entry

If a customer prefers, they can tap Enter manually and type their full address into a single text field. This skips the map entirely.

How It Works for Merchants

When a customer places an order using the map picker, the exact coordinates (latitude and longitude) are saved alongside the address. This unlocks two tools in your dashboard.

Share Delivery Info

Available in both the order preview modal and the full order detail page.

Tap Share Delivery Info to copy a formatted block to your clipboard:

Delivery for Order #ORD-XXXXX
Customer: Kofi Mensah
Phone: +233XXXXXXXXX
Address: 14 Independence Ave, Accra
Directions: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/...

Paste this anywhere — WhatsApp, SMS, or any messaging app. It's the fastest way to hand off delivery details to a rider or dispatch team.

Get Directions

Tap Get Directions to open Google Maps in a new tab with turn-by-turn navigation to the customer's pinned location. This works on both desktop and mobile — on your phone, it opens the Google Maps app directly.

Copy Address

The Copy Address button copies just the address text (no name, phone, or link). Use this when you need to paste the destination into a delivery app like Bolt, Yango, or Uber.

Where to Find These Tools

Order Preview Modal

Click any order in your orders list to open the quick preview. If the order has a delivery address, you'll see the Share Delivery Info button in the quick actions section.

Order Detail Page

Open the full order detail page and scroll to the Customer Details card. You'll see three buttons:

  • Share Delivery Info — Copies the full delivery block
  • Copy Address — Copies just the address
  • Get Directions — Opens Google Maps (only shows when coordinates are available)
  • Call — Calls the customer directly

Older Orders

Orders placed before this feature was added won't have GPS coordinates. For those orders:

  • Share Delivery Info still works — it includes the customer name, phone, and address, but skips the directions link
  • Get Directions button won't appear
  • Copy Address works as usual

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the address picker work outside Ghana?

The address picker is currently configured for Ghana with Google Places autocomplete restricted to the country. The map itself works globally, so if a customer uses "Use my location" from another country, it will still capture their coordinates.

What if a customer doesn't use the map?

If a customer enters their address manually, the order is saved without coordinates. You can still see and copy the address, but the Get Directions button won't appear.

Can I see the customer's location on a map in my dashboard?

Currently, the dashboard shows the address as text with action buttons. Tapping Get Directions opens the full Google Maps view where you can see the exact pin location.

What if the customer's GPS location is wrong?

The "Use my location" feature depends on the customer's device GPS accuracy. Customers can always drag the pin after using GPS to correct their position. The final pin position is what gets saved.
